Born in Moscow. Alexei grows up in the shadow of the Kremlin, where his father, an architect at Mosproekt, is then drawing the Palace of Congresses.
In this world of vast housing blocks, his eye grows used to the measure of the world. With his cousin Emma he moves from observation to mastery: she passes on technical rigour, engraving the artist's first gestures into his hand.
