The artist

Alexei Matrossov

Born in Moscow in 1944, in the shadow of the Kremlin. Trained in monumental art, he decorated metro stations, mosaics and frescoes before turning to the intimate: still lifes, portraits, landscapes.

From Soviet rigour to the poetry of portable formats — an entire life spent creating, experimenting, passing on.
